the thing i almost didn't say is that the peace, this profound lack of urgency, it feels like a wound sometimes, almost. like a ghost limb, a space where something vital used to thrum and now it’s just… open, vast, and the sheer emptiness of it, the NOTHING where the scramble used to be, it still makes my chest tighten, a sharp, almost disorienting clench because my brain keeps trying to fill it, trying to invent a problem, a task, some crisis only i can solve even though there’s no big tech machine to feed anymore, no project plan to chase, just the sound of the fog horn out in the bay and my own breathing, slow and steady, and it’s a battle, still, to just let that be enough, to let the silence sit without trying to make it useful, without trying to justify its existence to some phantom manager or to kate who’d probably ask if i’d found a way to monetize it yet, and that familiar pull in my right forearm like i should be gripping something, clicking something, driving something forward, it’s fading, but it’s not gone, never completely gone, the body remembers the grind even when the mind is trying desperately to unlearn it, like a phantom itch where the deactivated work phone used to vibrate, a constant whisper that i’m forgetting something CRITICAL.
