how do you just… stand there? someone asked me today, and it wasn't a question really, more an observation, and i felt the warmth of the summer sun on my skin then, a slow, deep knowing settling itself in the hollow space behind my sternum, that feeling when the surge comes, whatever it is, and you don’t have to grab it or push it away, just let it move through, like a current through a canyon, shaping without destroying, and i remember the frantic need to always DO something with every disturbance, every shift, but now there’s just the vastness, the space for it to simply travel, to become part of the landscape and then recede, leaving only the gentle vibration of the present moment, a soft thrum in my fingertips, a sense of deep, expansive capacity to witness, which is what my therapist probably means by 'high-functioning' if i'm honest, it's not about being immune, it's about being the space where it can all happen.
