the fleeting tang on my tongue, a sudden whisper of something that used to define a whole year, and my skull feels suddenly too small, crammed with the ghost-visions of a year i thought i'd finally packed away, all the familiar corners and faces pressing against the inside of my temples like they're trying to push through my eyes and claim this present moment too, but there's this weird clarity to it now, a distinct sharpness to the edges of even the most brutal moments that used to blur into a single, aching wound, and it's not the collapsing dread i used to anticipate, no, not the desperate scramble to put it all back in a box, just this enormous rush of vivid, uninvited recollection that leaves my hands trembling slightly, a tremor that feels more like an overflow than a deficit, like my capacity to feel has just expanded without permission, pulling everything from the deepest recesses and holding it all up to the fierce clarity of this moment, making me realize that even the darkest chapters are just part of the story, not the whole book, and the strangest thing is there's almost a gratitude in the sheer, undeniable fact of it all, that i can contain so much turbulence and still stand here, perfectly upright, even if my throat feels thick with the effort of swallowing down a whole lifetime of yesterdays, and this new kind of ache isn't about longing for what's gone, it's just the sheer volume of all that feeling, a magnificent, terrifying PRESENCE that permeates everything, and it doesn't crush me, doesn't even distort me, just leaves me utterly saturated, brimming with memories, but still breathing, still absolutely here.
