the grit beneath my fingernail, an almost imperceptible dust from the trail, reminds me how much of us is just… earth, just particles, a constant re-forming, a slow grinding down and building up, the way a valley holds the river, not fighting its current but giving it shape, letting it carve its path without judgment, and that's the thing, isn't it, the allowing, the letting the internal landscape unfold even when it’s messy, even when it’s a chaos of scree and loose rock, knowing that beneath it all, there's always the bedrock, the deep pulse that doesn't falter, doesn't question, just IS, and sometimes that's the only thing you can lean into, that core of unwavering presence, the kind that doesn't need to speak or explain or even understand, just to be there, a steady hum against the chaos, a place for everything to settle into its own truth, like the way the body remembers how to brace, how to find purchase, long after the fear has receded, leaving only clarity, a deeper knowing that the mountain offers, a kind of belonging that still feels like it could break apart if i breathed too hard sometimes, but then i remember the glacier, slow and insistent, shaping everything, and the comfort in that, the comfort and rage, both at once, that everything just adapts.
