the thing i almost didn't say, the dangerous honest version, is that the old reflex kicked in, and i almost braced, but then i remembered i'm paying someone a lot of money to NOT do that, so i just stood there like a dignified idiot. scout didn't even flinch, which is probably a bad sign.
