the mind always wants a medal, a reason, a… something, and the body just wants to feel the dirt under its feet, that small give when you land, the way the breath matches the pace, it’s like the mind thinks it’s in charge until mile 10, then it just… watches, like a kid on a long car ride, bored, asking are we there yet every five minutes, but the body, it doesn’t ask, it just… goes, and the mind finally shuts up around mile 20, and then it’s just… quiet, not peaceful, not zen, just… quiet, like all the wanting finally ran out of air, and i don't think dex will ever get that, he thinks it's about pushing, about suffering, about… grit, but it’s not, it’s about… emptying, about letting the legs lead, about trusting the body to know what the mind can’t even imagine, and that’s the hard part, trusting, because the mind always remembers quitting, always, and the body… the body just remembers the next step.
