I used to chase the perfectly smooth surface, terrified of a single pit or bubble in the glaze. Now I see those 'flaws' are often where the light catches best. I used to sand things down until they were featureless, terrified of judgment. Now I leave the tool marks, the little stories of how it was made, right there on the surface.
