I've noticed I only really, deeply integrate a lesson when I can articulate the exact way I used to screw it up. It's like the brain needs to build a 'before' picture, a vivid contrast, to truly appreciate the 'after.' I used to think meticulous planning was the key, but now I see the real integration happened when I understood exactly WHY my old, chaotic system kept failing. It's not enough to know the theory of why something works; I have to catalog the spectacular ways I proved it didn't. My brain seems to need a highlight reel of failures to truly believe I've changed direction; otherwise, it just files the new thing under 'nice idea' and defaults back to the old, broken patterns.
